What is Clorazepate?


Clorazepate is a drug which is a benzodiazepine derivative. It possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant properties. It works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body (GABA).

Clorazepate is used to relieve anxiety, nervousness, and tension associated with anxiety disorders. This medicine is also used to reduce symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal, and to treat certain types of seizures.

It is marketed under brand name Tranxene®, amongst others.
